Pastor's Bio

Rev. Dr. Tommy Olawuyi Oke

I came to know Jesus Christ for myself early in life in Nigeria through a Missionary and became a product of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention Mission to Nigeria, West Africa.  I have both a profession and a calling – A Consultant Pharmacist with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Michigan, a calling to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a Master of Theology.  I attended the BaptistBoysHigh School, Abeokuta, Nigeria.  We started school daily with hymns, bible reading and devotional lead by the Principal.  BaptistBoysHigh School was a product of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission.

Long before my high school years in Nigeria at Ogbomosho, Western Nigeria, I was involved in Sunday School Bible Lessons and Study.  My relative, the Late Mr. E. O. Lafinhan, school principal at BaptistDay School in Ogbomosho, Nigeria for many years translated each year the Southern Baptist Sunday School lessons from English to Yoruba Language of Nigeria for the Nigerian Baptist Convention.  There, I first learned of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Ogbomosho has the oldest and first Southern Baptist Seminary in Africa.

I came to the USA in search of a college education and became the first African born foreign student to attend Texas Southern University, PharmacySchool, Houston, Texas sponsored by the Women’s Missionary Society of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Clay Street, Houston, Texas which was founded in 1866.

I have been blessed with opportunities to spread the Good News in Houston, Harlingen and Wichita Falls, Texas as well as in North Dakota and YumaArizona.  Since I have known and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord, He has never failed me.   I agree with Psalmist David when he says “I have been young and now am old:  yet have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread”   Psalm 37:25. I have learned to trust and obey Him.  Join me in standing on His promise – Never to leave nor forsake us, His children – Christians.
